50 Cents at a Time Fund

Toward the end of 2011, right around the happy holidays time of year, Tim started hearing more stories about people that were down on their luck than he could stand. He made corporate and private donations to various local groups, but it didn't feel like enough. People are in need all year long. And so the 50 Cents at a Time idea was born, as explained in his blog post.

Since then, his idea has been made into a full-fledged charitable organization, complete with a Board of Directors and a mission statement:

Our mission is to make the world a better place through charitable giving - locally, nationally, and globally - 50 cents at a time.

Complete Medical Lists collects any donated money with each order and passes the funds directly to the 50 Cents at a Time Fund, which distributes the donations to various charitable organizations each month.

How Does It Work?

Mailing list pricing works on a per thousand basis - for example, a list may be $60 for every thousand records. The idea of this charity is to raise money by adding 50 cents per thousand records to each order, so that $60/M list will cost $60.50 per thousand if a client wishes to particiate (it's always optional). It doesn't add up to much per order - on a 5,000 record order a client only donates $2.50. However, when all our orders from a wide variety of clients is added up each month, it can be quite a sizable donation for that organization.

And we donate 50 cents per thousand on every single order, regardless of our client's participation. We are truly committed to doing what we can to make the world a better place.

Which Charities Receive the Money?

The Board of Directors selects charities based on several criteria, including a good ranking on Charity Navigator. The charities chosen are usually medical related or a deserving local charity. Often the charity chosen touches a particular chord for someone on the Board or in our office.

Some of the charities that have received donations so far include Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation, and a local homeless shelter.

Can I Donate a Different Amount?

We chose 50 cents because it is a low enough amount to encourage participation, but high enough to make a difference. It's only a suggested amount, though. If you would like to donate less or more, just let us know when you place your order.

Know of a Worthy Cause?

If you would like to suggest a worthy charity for the fund to make a donation to, please send an email to 50cents at completemedicallists.com for consideration.
